Privacy policy
This privacy policy explains how sicnav.org.uk (“we”, “this site”) handles information when you use our free UK SIC code reference. We do not require registration or payment.
Who operates this site
sicnav.org.uk is an independent, unofficial reference website about UK Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes. It is not operated by Companies House, GOV.UK, or any government body.
Data sources and licensing
Company information displayed on this site comes from the public register maintained by Companies House, including filed accounts and active director names published on that register.
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. UK SIC 2007 codes and descriptions are public sector reference data. See our licence and attribution page for full details.
Where turnover is shown as estimated, that figure is calculated by us from public filing data — it is not a value declared by the company on the register.
Director names are taken from the public Companies House officers register and displayed as part of the company research view. We do not add private contact details beyond what appears on the public register.
Information we collect
When you visit this site, our web server may automatically record standard technical data, such as:
- your IP address;
- browser type and version;
- the pages you request and the time of your visit;
- the referring page, if your browser sends it.
We use this information only to operate and secure the service, diagnose faults, and understand general usage. We do not use it for advertising or sell it to third parties.
Cookies
This site does not use cookies for advertising or analytics.
Search and lookup activity
SIC code searches are processed in your browser. We do not ask for your name, email address, or company details to use the lookup table.
Links to other websites
Some SIC codes link to the official Companies House website. If you follow those links, Companies House and other third-party sites will have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for how they handle your information.
Data retention
Server log files are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or aggregated.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because we collect very little personal information and do not operate user accounts, there is often little to retrieve beyond standard server logs associated with your visits.
