SIC Navigator

About SIC Navigator

SIC Navigator (sicnav.org.uk) is a free reference for UK Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes. It lists every code in the official SIC 2007 structure used by Companies House, and — where we have indexed a sector — shows UK companies filed under that code with turnover, employees, cash and other figures extracted from public accounts.

What is a SIC code?

A SIC code describes a company’s main business activity. When a UK company files annual accounts or confirms its nature of business, Companies House records one or more five-digit codes (for example 59112 — Video production activities or 70210 — Public relations and communications activities). The same classification is used across government statistics and the register.

What you can do here

Where the data comes from

Company names, accounts and director names come from the public Companies House register and filed iXBRL documents. SIC code definitions follow the UK SIC 2007 standard. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. See our licence and attribution page for details.

Turnover and employee figures are taken from filed accounts where companies report them. Where a filing does not declare turnover, we may show an estimated figure derived from public filing data — always check the original filing on Companies House for official values.

Who this site is for

SIC Navigator is aimed at anyone who needs a clear UK SIC code list with practical context: business owners, accountants, researchers, journalists and analysts mapping the UK company population by sector. It is an independent site — not operated by Companies House or GOV.UK.
